The biological and ecological properties of each micro-organism in plant protection products will be at the heart of the scientific risk assessment process before micro-organisms can be approved as active substances in plant protection products. Such rules should speed up the authorisation of micro-organisms and plant protection products containing them. The new legal framework will apply from November 2022 and may lead to greater availability of low risk pesticides and better protection of farmers and consumers. It may also have a positive effect on organic production because organic farmers may only use low risk pesticides.
