The report of the 9th LEADER /CLLD Sub-group Meeting (23/02/2021) is now available in English, French and German.
The online meeting was an opportunity to update LEADER Sub-group members on the state of play of LEADER implementation and Commission initiatives relating to LEADER and on recent and planned ENRD Contact Point activities related to LEADER.
The 20th NRN Meeting took place virtually on 15 June 2021. The aim of this event was to reflect on specific activities from preceding NRN meetings and workshops that can add value to future networking.
This virtual meeting covered recent actions in the consultation process on the Long-Term Vision for Rural Areas, reflecting on NRN activities during Rural Vision Week, and NRN's role in supporting communication and stakeholder involvement around the Vision. All presentations are available here.
The new edition of the EAFRD Projects Brochure presents the 15 finalists of the Rural Inspiration Awards (RIA) 2020. It gives well‑deserved visibility to their projects, provides updates on their achievements and aims to inspire new initiatives.
The RIA 2020 were the second edition of the ENRD's EU-wide rural development good practice competition. This edition focused on EAFRD-funded initiatives that are promoting rural climate action and the bioeconomy, key topics for EU rural development policy and at the forefront of the wider EU and global policy agenda.
The latest edition of TERRITORIALL, ESPON's magazine, is dedicated to the long-term vision for rural areas in the framework of Europe's recovery efforts after the COVID-19 pandemic and includes an article based on the ENRD's work.
The EU decision-makers created in a record time a recovery plan to combine the current and future budgetary resources. But the implementation will be challenging. The magazine looks, among others, at European Commission's support to the recovery efforts, the linkages between Cohesion and the rural areas, CAP reform and changes in EU's communication activites during the pandemic.
The highlights report of the ENRD Rural Vision Week (March 2021) is now available online. Rural Vision Week was a five-day interactive online conference focused on involving stakeholders with preparations for a long-term vision for the future of EU rural areas.
More than 550 stakeholders participated directly during Rural Vision Week and its online outreach connected with thousands more through social media. This document summarises the key messages from the event.
The SHEEP AL.L. CHAIN project (funded by the EAFRD) aims at highlighting the value of the Alpagota and Lamon sheep breed farms (rare autochthonous sheep breeds from the area of Belluno, Italy) through digital tools.
The project developed online apps for the sharing of genealogical data and traceability of the productions as well as marketing and communication materials.

The highlights report of the Workshop for NRNs on Working together: linking Rural Networks is now available.
The meeting, held online on 4 May 2021, provided participants with the opportunity to share NRN current methods of connecting and collaborating and exploring how, and on which topics, they can work together. The discussions related both to which areas of activity benefit from linkages between NRNs, and also the format used for these exchanges.
Initiated in 2014 by the European Landowners’ Organization (ELO) and the European Agricultural Machinery Industry Association (CEMA), the Bee Award is committed to find common solutions for the benefit of biodiversity by rewarding projects protecting pollinators.
This year's categories are Land Management practices (€ 4,000), Innovative technological solutions (€ 4,000) and Special mention of the Jury (Diploma of recognition). Applications are open until 10 September 2021. Find out more here.
EU greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from agriculture fell by more than 20% since 1990, but have stagnated since 2010. Still, as agricultural production has continued to grow, the climate footprint per unit of output continued to improve.
The CAP has helped reduce GHG emissions. Mitigation is mainly achieved by protecting existing carbon stocks, notably thanks to the maintenance of permanent grasslands supported by extensive livestock grazing systems. There is potential to further increase carbon storage in EU soils. In terms of climate adaptation, it is mainly achieved through support towards diversity of crops and farming systems, investment support for adaptation to new climate conditions, limiting soil erosion and improving resilience to floods. These are among the main findings of the evaluation of the impact of the CAP on climate change and GHG emissions.
The 2021 edition of the OECD Regional Outlook shows that a place-based approach is vital for resilience in the face of the challenges brought by climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic.
The report analyses the different territorial impacts of COVID-19 on health and economy, as well as policy responses. It explores the different territorial implications of moving to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 whilst adapting to inevitable climate change, and provides fresh analysis of regional data. It provides insights for integrating the climate challenge into multi-level governance, urban and rural development so as to leave no region behind. Finally, it highlights the opportunity we have to draw lessons from COVID-19 for a place-based response to the climate challenge.
