The European Commission put forward the vision for rural areas by 2040 in June 2021. It proposes a number of actions, flagships and tools with the ambition to drive the revitalisation of rural areas, including the setting-up of a Rural Revitalisation Platform that should be a one-stop-shop for rural communities, project holders and authorities to collaborate.
The first meeting of the ENRD Thematic Group (TG) on Rural Revitalisation provided a space for exchange on the key enabling factors that support rural revitalisation, with particular attention to those rural areas affected by population loss, ageing and a lack of economic opportunities. Also, TG members started a reflection on the needs and expectations for the future Rural Revitalisation Platform and the elements it should contain to provide a distinct added value to that of existing tools.
Aims of the meeting
- To share views and feedback on the TG working document that includes a tool to support the design of rural revitalisation policies;
- To build recommendations on the key elements and features to help shape the future rural revitalisation platform for rural stakeholders in areas affected by population loss, ageing and a lack of economic opportunities; and
- To explore the potential contribution of the Thematic Group and its members to the Rural Pact Conference on 15-16 June 2022
