The meeting focused on effective approaches to support the transition to fully sustainable practices in agriculture and forestry, and analyse how the future CAP could best be used to upscale them. The programme was built around experiences from the Rural Development Programmes, as well as other relevant initiatives such as the LIFE programme, Horizon 2020 projects, or national, regional or local initiatives.

President Von der Leyen announced that the European Commission is going to develop a long-term vision for rural areas. In this workshop, which is part of the European Week of Regions and Cities, the Commission provided a brief introduction to frame the discussion (why do we need a vision, what is the Commission doing, awareness raising of consultation activities, follow-up of consultation activities via the Communication on a long-term vision). However, the main objective of the event was to have an exchange of views and debate with participants.
