In the LAG “More 249” area, agriculture is the backbone of economic development. The main agricultural cultures such as wine and olives, and other like growing aromatic plants are becoming increasingly popular. However, the problem of farms is fragmentation of land and large proportion of the elderly population in their agricultural economy. Also the high unemployment of young people is present. To enhance generational renewal of agricultural workers, to encourage self-employment, to encourage innovation and affect on creating brand in food production, LAG wishes through various projects and training encourage young people to stay in rural areas, to do farming and on examples of good practice to work on positive steps the development of agricultural sector in the area of the LAG.
Local action group “More 249" covers the coastal part of Šibenik - Knin county. We plan to apply on Erasmus+ (deadline October) for training course „Agro youth“ which aims to train young farmers and workers on how to produce quality food and at the same time how to face with the wide range of socio – economic issues, new jobs, self - employment and growth, etc.
The specific objective of the project is to involve young people on positive thinking on agriculture as source of self-employment and income. The target group of the project are young people who are innovative and educated and can contribute to the production of quality food, using modern technologies. The activities to be implement are educational workshops for start up’s in agriculture, working visits to young farmers and exchange experiences with young farmers from the EU.
