Overcoming Obstacles to Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurs starting and developing a business in rural areas can face many obstacles including low population density and remoteness; poor access to markets; limited capital, labour and infrastructure; as well as some negative cultural attitudes to entrepreneurship and the entrepreneurial spirit.
The following cross-cutting themes have been identified as of common interest to the NRNs:
- New local financing instruments;
- Inclusion of specific target groups in enterprise, including greater support for woman entrepreneurs and fostering the entrepreneurial spirit amongst young people.
