Summary
This 50-page booklet highlights the importance of voluntary work and effort by local people for successful and sustainable rural and regional development. Essentially it is a summary of 23 "acclaimed" projects nominated from around 1000 projects nation-wide in a competition to promote and recognize quality efforts in local rural development in 338 regions/micro regions. Project subject areas covered in the booklet include initiatives in: child education including disabilities, nutrition and health, budgeting and family finance, gardens and orchard management and biodiversity, conservation, heritage and museums, community and activity centres and citizens associations, youth activities, car pools, ... and many more. Three of the projects were voted best by local actors: a Citizen Network in Ilzer (Bavaria); Village Life in Baden-Württemberg; and Citizen's Association for the Saxony-Anhalt region.
