Supporting Young Farmers to become Competitive in Flanders

Assisting a young farmer to become an owner-manager of a family farm including assistance with transfer of ownership; developing a viable business plan; attracting investment to enhance the use of new technology; improving productivity & efficiency.

This project supported the initiative of a young farmer who wanted to take over ownership and management of his family farm from his parents. The farm met all the registration requirements, including licences for farming livestock under limited environmental restrictions, production & emisison controls. The young farmer had developed a business plan which was considered to be viable and eligible for support.

Results & Benefits

Results achieved included: completion of ownership transfer; improved gross margin and added value in the farm business; improved productivity per labour unit; and overall, a greater sense of economic security and future sustainability for the wider family, spanning 3 generations.
