RDP assistance to help a rural business strengthen its auto-services operations - so as to provide important local transport support services for local farmers and residents whilst also contributing to a diversified rural economy in Lithuania.

Rural economies rely on a foundation of basic services. Transport needs are high in most rural areas and so support services for transport remain important contributors to quality of life. Rural businesses providing transport services also provide employment opportunities. This project relates to improvements in infrastructure at a auto-services garage.

The goals of this Project were to invest in developing the family auto-service business as a tool to help overcome worsening economic circumstances linked to the global recession. The beneficiary aimed to create a modern and highly qualified auto service garage, as well as an employee friendly work environment.

One of the main activities of the Project was the purchasing of necessary equipment like car lifts, diagnostic lines, and mechanical trucks. In total, the purchase of auto service equipment accounted for 300.000,00 Lt. Another main activity was the development of infrastructure such as: setting up the paved road, creating the website of the company, purchasing other necessary equipment (including ICT).

The results have helped to develop the business and create a modern auto service. There are now nine wholly equipped auto mechanic work places and the project also created a much more integrated / effective infrastructure.

"We were able to deal with the challenges bit by bit. Though we did find it hard to meet all of the requirements, and the preparation of the necessary documents was challenging. Because of that we hired consultants to help us with administrative side of the Project.We would advise everyone to find help with the administrative side of the Project. We hired the consulting company and we were very glad we did that."
