The development of a sports centre offering indoor activities (squash, badminton and indoor golf) will enhance sporting facilities in the city of Briançon that will lead to more job creation and to create a more health conscious environment.

Following market research amongst people living in Briançon has shown a demand for a sports centre offering three main sporting activities being squash, indoor golf and badminton. Rémi Billy has taken on the development of this site in the southern area of Briançon through a Leader project that supported part of the cost of the development of the indoor golf area, which is an innovative and unique activity in the region.

The main objective of this project was to support a start-up company that came forward with an innovative idea to develop new facilities for the community that would actually meet the expectations of the local people.

This project involved the acquisition of equipment for the development of the golf area including the purchase of a golf practice simulator and other golf material. Furthermore, support was provided to cover the communication and signalling technology. This project will be complimented by a squash and badminton area. The centre will be open to locals and tourists for both amusement and training purposes. The centre will also offer lessons and courses for all three sports.

The project will result in the creation of new jobs as well as new sporting facilities for the community. This will generate an economic spin off for the rural community by attracting new segments of tourism to the area. Furthermore this project will increase the awareness on a healthy lifestyle for the local community not only through its facilities but also through training support.

This project received financing from EAFRD, through the Leader approach. Leader provides a unique opportunity for small based local initiatives to take place as is the case with the city of Briançon.
