The diversification activities implemented by a small group of dairy farmers have provided a small rural community with the possibility to grow and revitalize its economy, becoming a significant tourist centre in the region.

The project was conceived and implemented in a small Estonian village where dairy production was the main economic activity. The participating farmers recognised that diversification into other economic activities was the key to economic and social development and developed a project to meet these needs.

The main aim of this project was to increase local economic sustainability through supporting diversification activities of the Nopri Talumeierei dairy production centre. Specifical objectives were the creation of a farm shop and agrotourism facilities / a multipurpose conference centre.

The main activities of the project consisted of: 1) building a farm shop; 2) new kitchen and conference facilities (conference room for 80 people); 3) buying the equipment for the kitchen and farm shop.

The project is considered successful. It has facilitated both the economic and social development of the Nopri community. Specifically through: 1) direct farm sales; 3) new jobs created within the community. The 'conference' centre has become the local peoples favorite place to meet and organise leisure activities.

It is possible for relatively small investments implemented by a few farmers to create the right conditions to stimulate the development of a whole community and to make it attractive for tourists.
