New Agricultural Equipment Boosts Competitiveness of Baltic Buckwheat Farm

EAFRD support helped a buckwheat farm modernise its equipment and improve its productivity capacity in order to strengthen business competitiveness.

Farm modernisation offers useful benefits as a development tool for rural economies, especially in transitional areas or sectors. Modern technologies can help increase productivity, improve yields, create cost savings and offer environmental benefits. Lithuania’s RDP acknowledges these benefits and provides support to encourage its agricultural sector to modernise as a way of sustaining and strengthening its competitiveness.

This farm modernisation project aimed to improve business competitiveness of the agricultural unit managed by Mr Modestas Baranauskas. His objectives included upscaling to take advantage of new production technologies in a way that drew on his existing agronomic knowledge. He wanted to reduce production costs, ensure his ability to supply high quality buckwheat and limit possible detrimental effects on the environment.
