EAFRD funding was used to provide ICT equipment to a community development facility in rural Latvia. The equipment is being used to improve rural ICT skills and promote an information society.

DSC “Var būt” Association is a community organisation from the parish of Code. The area lacked ICT facilities for community use and new technology was considered beneficial as a tool to develop new opportunities and skills which could help address quality of life concerns in the parish.

The objective of the project is to improve the quality of life in Code by updating the technical equipment of the DSC “Var būt” association. After the completion of the project the association will use the equipment to provide training, consultation services and other activities to support the development of an information society, and drive the initiative and involvement of the local community in rural development.

The project activities centred on purchasing technical equipment including a laptop with a mouse and bag, a flash memory drive, a multifunctional monochrome laser printer, a colour inkjet printer, a multimedia projector, a screen and a board.

The DSC “Var būt” association is using the equipment to provide training, consultation services and other activities to support the development of an information society. Areas of training include development of computer skills, internet use, motivation, stress management, business communication, writing CVs and cover letters, business planning and management, and special interest classes.

The project is creating a wide range of inclusive opportunities for informal education and the use of new technologies.
