Construction of Broiler Production Facilities Equipped with Modern and Fully Automated Systems

Summary

A poultry farm business in Cyprus has used EAFRD co-financing as part of its investment programme for the construction of three new and fully automated poultry meat production facilities.

Background

The old facilities which were used for broiler production were not profitable, had high maintenance costs and were lacking modern equipment and automated systems. In 2005 the company owner decided to apply for support for the construction of new modern units, which would be more efficient and would have no negative environmental impact.

Objective

The project objective was the increased productivity and improvement of the poultry meat quality.

Main activities

The project activities included the construction of three new modern chicken houses equipped with modern fully automated systems.

Results & Benefits

As a result production costs were reduced. The use of modern and automated equipment resulted to much more efficient management of the unit. The working conditions of the employees improved and better quality chickens were produced.

Lessons learnt

Modernisation increases productivity and improves quality.
