Background

Production-waste (cattle manure) of the cow-breeding complex can be used as conventional natural gas for heating and energy production.

Objective

The objective of the project was to make use of the production waste (cattle manure) of the cow-breeding agricultural complex for the production of energy.

Main activities

To achieve this objective an engineering project for the construction of a biogas plant for a cow-rearing agricultural complex near Kapuvár has been the main activity of the project. According to the biogas plant design, production-waste (cattle manure) of the cow-breeding complex is used to produce energy. Recycling of biological waste gives biogas and electricity.

Results & Benefits

The biogas treatment system, the co-generation units, the methane filling stations and the waste water treatment systems have been functioning. The biogas plant has been functioning both as a purification station and a thermoelectric plant. The new dairy farm for 1,000 cattle has been producing 25,000 tons of liquid manure annually. The capacity of the electricity station is 526 kilowatt-hour of electricity. In addition, the investment has created 16 new employment posts.

Lessons learnt

Cattle manure is not a fertilizer itself. In order to become a fertilizer it needs time (6-7 months). The longer manure is stored the more nutrients it loses. Biogas technology allows production of natural fertilizer in a short period of time. Such fertilizer is rich in active elements and micro-elements.
