Bringing village communities together through arts and events, community growing or linking villages to land-based industries
The LAG aims to create a strong sense of place & to promote sustainable & inclusive communities within the villages of central Warwickshire. One of its key priorities is bringing together those who have always lived in the area & incomers or migrants; young & old, to create, celebrate & redefine their rural culture & heritage.
The LAG area comprises 55 parishes (on 546 km2)with a total population of 52,000. The area is a pastoral landscape traversed by canals, bridleways & footpaths providing important recreational networks for visitors & residents alike. Agriculture in the area is predominately large scale arable farming with some cattle grazing. It is quite well wooded with some large ancient woodlands of high nature conservation value in the area. In addition local and community food is actively being developed.
-Community art events & village activities as a means of enhancing a sense of place & bringing communities together(Theatre; Festivals; Rural Arts Youth Schemes); -Community-growing activities, mainly the development of local food production led by community participation(Community Orchards & farms; Food Festivals etc); -Activities that link communities to land based industries, eg. skills share between farmers and school children(Open Countryside Days; Schools Farmers Markets; Training etc)
LAGs As we are new to LEADER we would welcome contacts from more experienced LAGs willing to share good practice. We are still open to new ideas, suggestions & cooperation themes concerning activities such as these.
