LEADER 2012_ Mining Heritage

Summary of project idea:

Under the LEADER Program, the LAG Pays du Bocage wishes to cooperate on the rehabilitation of mining heritage. We would like to exchange with EUropean partners on mining heritage enhancement practices.

Local context in which
the project is going to operate (starting situation):

There is a major mining heritage within the Pays du Bocage: there are visible Middle AGe ironworks and a major XXe century industrial patrimony (mining galleries etc.). A non profit organization (Le savoir et le Fer, the Know-how and the Iron) created in 2003 rpomotes this mining heritage. Hey have several projects aiming at pomoting and enhancing this heritage.

Project objectives, target group and activities:

The LAG's goal is to support his organization by creating touristic paths in order to preserve mining sites. So far, several projects exist to promote the mining heritage: -A Museum and Information center for tourists -Links between the bike path, walking path and serveral surrounding sites -Promotion of the ¨Varennes Ironworks (16th) -The rehabilitation of an iron mine gallery
