Outline

On the 17-18 April 2013 close to 500 representatives of the LEADER community from 34 countries in Europe gathered in Brussels for the third annual ENRD LEADER event. The event theme was ‘Building Bridges for the Future’ and the aim was to support the process of successful programming of CLLD (known as LEADER within EAFRD) at a national and local level. The event provided a unique platform for real-time exchange between all stakeholders involved in shaping and/or participating in the future of LEADER.

Participants included representatives from Local Action Groups, Managing Authorities, Paying Agencies, National Rural Networks, the ENRD Contact Point, the European Commission and various European organisations.

Through exchange the participants were able to:

  • receive information and insight into practices that could instruct their process of consultation and programming at national, regional and local level for LEADER;
  • have access to experiences and lessons learned, case studies and examples of processes, tools that can further be tailored to specific environments;
  • learn from peer-to-peer exchanges and get recommendations on how to strengthen LEADER programming (at national and local level); and
  • be part of a stronger network of stakeholder groups involved in LEADER programming and implementation.

The ambition was to bring all the different key stakeholder groups together to build a common understanding of their respective roles in supporting of ongoing programming process, in an open, team-based atmosphere.

Open exchange between Local Actions Groups, Managing Authorities and Paying Agencies was at the heart of the event methodology. The event activities allowed participants ample opportunity to meet other rural development practitioners, European policy-makers and ENRD Contact Point representatives.

In this section of the ENRD website you will find the documents and resources made available to participants as background for the main topics of discussion, as well as the programme and main outcomes from the discussions and showcasing sessions.
