Management of Rural Development

Rural Development policy in Hungary is under the responsibility of the Department of Rural Development of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The framework for Rural Development policy is defined in the Hungarian National Strategy Plan for Rural Development and a single Rural Development Programme (RDP) covering the whole country. This strategy aims at creating the favourable conditions necessary for the development of agriculture, the preservation of environmental values of rural areas, the strengthening of rural economy and the cohesion of rural society.

Summary of rural development policy objectives

The main rural development objectives include:

  • supporting technological modernization and innovation to increase competitiveness;
  • increasing the value of agriculture and forestry products;
  • improving environment and protect the territories with high natural values;
  • improving the quality and the accessibility of the human infrastructure in rural areas;
  • diversifying of the economy by development of micro-enterprises
